Next Gen Ministry

The Next Gen Ministry exists to equip and empower kids and students to have an authentic and active faith. It is amazing to watch how God is using this team to reach and disciple the next generation.

ONE OF OUR GOALS THIS YEAR IS TO HELP FAMILIES ESTABLISH HEALTHY SPIRITUAL RHYTHMS.

We began that process in the fall when we hosted David Thomas and Sissy Goff from Raising Boys and Girls to share what it means to be a “worry-free parent.” Over 700 people from our church and community attended, including some from other parts of Texas and even a couple without kids who wanted to be prepared for the future.

Our desire is for PCBC to be a place where parents are encouraged and equipped to raise children with an authentic and active faith — ready to be sent back into their homes and community. Thank you, church family, for supporting the Next Gen Ministry; we look forward to the new year!

Next Gen Pastor

The Lord is doing amazing work in preschool ministry! Due to our growing number of children and families, we have added classes in every building and increased our volunteer team by over 50%. Our members truly recognize the value of providing biblical instruction in early childhood. They are not only discipling our children but also making meaningful connections with their parents as they serve. This is strengthening our entire church – we are better together!

SERVING OUR FAMILIES AND THEIR LITTLE ONES IS OUR GREATEST JOY!

2024-2025 Preschool Growth

This year, our Preschool Ministry saw tremendous growth on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights! We added a 3-year-old Puggles class in Awana, added a new 4- and 5-year-old Cubbies class, and added six new classes on Sunday mornings. We praise God for the way he is moving in the lives of our littles!

Meet Julianne, Who Teaches Us About Jesus

Julianne Arnold is a beautiful 5-year-old in our church who was born with brittle bone disease.

In her early years of life, her parents' lives revolved around her care. However, when she was two, they decided to leave her with someone other than her family for the first time. The people they trusted her with were Laura and Dennis Dronzek, volunteers in her 2-year-old Sunday School class.

Julianne has been thriving in our church for the last three years. We have had the joy of watching her leave her wheelchair and learn to walk, as we teach her to walk spiritually with Jesus. Julianne is now greeted every Sunday by her special buddy, Janna Shufford. Janna is committed to serving with Julianne each week, ensuring her safety in our care. Julianne's parents, Brian and Kim, are now helping us launch a Sunday morning Buddy Ministry and serving other people's children who need a buddy at church. Julianne encourages us every Sunday with her love. Her bones may be weak, but to us, she epitomizes the hands and feet of Jesus.

As both a minister and a licensed counselor, I have a heart for bridging the gap between mental health and ministry, which is what I love to incorporate in discipling kids and families. I believe that children hold high importance in God's kingdom, which is why teaching them God's word at a young age is so important.

THANK YOU, CHURCH FAMILY, FOR THIS PRIVILEGE OF LEADING OUR KIDS' MINISTRY THROUGH YOUR PRAYERS AND GENEROSITY!

A Year of Growth

This was an incredible year of spiritual growth for PCBC Kids! On Wednesdays, Grow Kids has become a place where children can participate in service projects and learn about different countries and missionaries. In addition, we built community through events like Kids Night Out, Mother & Son and Father & Daughter nights, and BreakAway, our first-ever 4th-5th grade retreat. One of the greatest joys has been seeing kids make public professions of faith and follow in baptism, which led to the creation of our New Christian Class for continued discipleship. We're excited to see what God will do in the new year!

Building Community Among 4th and 5th Grade Students

This year, we launched our first-ever 4th and 5th grade retreat — BreakAway — where five kids trusted in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and 15 decided to be baptized!

Not only did God stir in the hearts of the kids, but we saw God open opportunities for community and relationship-building. Our worship time was led in both English and Spanish, and kids formed meaningful friendships between the English and SLM ministries.

We love seeing our 4th and 5th graders focused and worshipping during Sunday worship services—a practice we worked on during our time together. Parents have responded with deep gratitude for elementary leaders who invested in their elementary kids through BreakAway and every Sunday throughout the year.

GOD WORKED IN WONDROUS WAYS OVER OUR BREAKAWAY WEEKEND, AND WE'LL CONTINUE TO SEE THE FRUITS OF OUR LABOR FOR YEARS TO COME!

Getting Kids in God's Word Every Day

In 2024, we launched our Kids Dwell Journals to help children read and journal through God’s Word daily!

THIS HAS BEEN AN INCREDIBLE YEAR FOR PCBC STUDENTS!

We had a blast at Getaway and Thee Camp, and students have leaned into Christ-centered community at Crew like never before. And along the way, we’ve celebrated many salvations and 18 baptisms. I’m grateful for such a generous church: the leaders who have poured into our students so well, the parents who have faithfully discipled their children, and our team who has led with passion and zeal.

Student Pastor

Learning About Jesus – Together

This year, students leaned into authentic community at Crew more than ever before. Week in and week out, small groups of students and leaders met in 11 homes all over Dallas to talk about Jesus and disciple one another.

We've had students come to know Jesus for the first time, witnessed baptisms take place, and seen genuine life transformation as a result of the conversations had in living rooms and backyards at Crew.

God has grown Crew into an outreach opportunity as we see students invite their friends into Christ-centered community every week. With even more groups starting this fall, we can't wait to see all that God is going to do in and through Crew this upcoming year!

Hear a sweet parting message from our 2025 Senior Class – how God has grown them in the past 18 years and the memories they'll hold with them forever.

A Thee Camp We'll Never Forget

At Thee Camp 2024, we experienced one of the most memorable nights of worship; it can only be described as a gift from God. Last summer, we lost our good friend Pike Petersen, and it sent a shockwave through our church. Many of our students were — and are — devastated by his passing. At Thee Camp, a brief moment of worship turned into a night of going to God with our sadness, holding each other up in our grief, and singing praises to Jesus even when we don’t understand why difficult things happen. It was sweet, painful, cathartic, and full of joy. Those are the moments we lean on when life gets tough, and we can’t wait to worship God alongside Pike again one day.

WELCOME TO OUR STUDENT TEAM, KATHRYN DOSSEY!

What a joy it is to be a part of the Next Gen team! In Middle School this year, we relocated to The Loft to be able to grow and have break-out groups each week — and have our students greeted by our fantastic Welcome Team! We also hosted our first-ever mother & daughter flower arranging class while learning about how God blesses and encourages us in our relationships within our families. Rounding out the year with our third annual Bible Character Draft, inaugural Bible March Madness Bracket, and Volleyball Night, it was a season of learning, spiritual growth, and fun being together.

Each one of our volunteers has poured so much into the lives of the students, whether in Connect or Crew groups, and I cannot wait to see what God does next as we focus everything we do on the gift of his Son! Thank you for investing in us, church family!

Extending Our Church to the Community

What an amazing year at the PCBC Day School! Highlights include adding a 3-year-old class and expanding days for older toddlers. Our events, such as the Fall Parade, Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas program for 3- and 4-year-olds, “Happy Birthday, Jesus” parties, and Easter celebrations, have been incredible.

AS THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR CONCLUDES, STUDENT ENROLLMENT IS 150 CHILDREN. GOD HAS TRULY BLESSED OUR SCHOOL!

PCBC Day School Director

IN NEXT GEN, WE OFFER OPPORTUNITIES TO PRAISE THE LORD THROUGH MUSIC AND THE ARTS.

On Wednesday nights during GROW, there are age-appropriate programs for students of all ages — from preschool choirs and elementary-aged Music, Missions & Movement classes to the Student Worship Team for middle and high school students. On Sundays, we explore different worship styles by singing together and visiting the Sanctuary and Great Hall to connect music with the messages of the sermons.

While the name may have changed, our focus remains the same: meeting kids where they are and sharing God’s love through song and movement. We blend timeless hymns with today’s contemporary worship music to help kids connect with Christ.

Penny Peek

Next Gen Music & Arts Coordinator

After 45 years on PCBC’s Sports and Recreation Ministry staff, I’m deeply grateful for the incredible journey. It’s been a blessing to serve this church and community since 1980 — launching new programs and recycling old ones to better meet people’s needs. I'm especially thankful for the incredible staff I’ve worked with over the years, who have become like family.

AS I WRAP UP THIS CHAPTER, I LEAVE WITH A FULL HEART OF GRATITUDE AND LASTING MEMORIES!

Laurie Tharp

Sports & Rec Program Director

Thank you, Laurie Tharp!

PCBC Sports & Rec has long been a gathering place for our neighbors and their families, allowing us the opportunity to connect with them and be the light of Jesus. Our activities have expanded over the years — from preschool gymnastics and art classes for kids to men’s basketball, Mahjong, Holy Yoga, senior adult exercise classes, pickleball, and more! We run 11 weeks of summer and holiday camps, totaling over 90 unique experiences each year. Upward Basketball & Cheerleading remain a winter highlight. While we strive to help participants grow in skills, outreach is at the heart of what we do. All programs are open to the community, and many individuals and families have become part of our church family through their involvement. Every activity includes devotionals and prayer, ensuring all who attend learn about the love of God.

At the heart of it all has been Laurie Tharp. We honor and give thanks for her faithfulness and friendship for these 45 years. Only heaven will reveal the number of lives she has impacted for Christ through PCBC Sports!

Welcome, Daniel Brooke!

Growing up, I fell in love with playing sports. Getting to compete and being a part of a team — striving together toward a specific goal — was always something that motivated me. The opportunity to join the PCBC staff as the Sports and Recreation Outreach Director and incorporate sports and Jesus has been an absolute joy, and I'm so grateful to Laurie Tharp for showing me the ropes this year!

Through our summer and holiday camps in 2024, we had over 1,600 children participate. Our staff loves having the opportunity to teach kids the skills necessary to be successful in whatever sport or activity they are doing. But most importantly, we love sharing about who Jesus is and that he wants to have a relationship with every kid who steps foot in our gym. Over 300 kids participated in Upward Basketball and Cheerleading, and each week during practices, our volunteer coaches would share a devotional with the kids about one of the many miracles Jesus performed during his ministry. Having a hand in what God is doing through our Sports and Rec Ministry has been incredible.
